About us

Wilmington Christian Fellowship (WCF) is an Evangelical Free Church that the Lord has been blessing for many years.

We are located in the village of Wilmington, near Dartford in Kent. People join us from a wide area.

Out of WCF, several churches have been planted forming a group of churches known as Harbour Ministries. These are all based in North West Kent.

We are a member of the Evangelical Alliance and we share the same basis of faith.

Our style of worship is contemporary using a variety of music and musical instruments. We encourage people to feel free to pray aloud, read from their Bible, share how God has blessed them and to use their spiritual gifts.

A Brief History

There has been a church at the current site since 1888. The first church was simply called The Mission which originally met in a corrugated tin hut and a hop kiln.

Various building work took place mainly thanks to the Whitehead family. The two Whitehead sisters devoting their lives to the work of the Mission.

It was only in the 1960's that the name changed to Wilmington Evangelical Free Church. At around the same time the church built its Manse.

This was a tremendous step of faith for the church and prayer was offered for the finances to complete the job. The Manse was started in 1966 and finished in 1970 with no debts outstanding.

Various Pastors lived there but more recently it has been become the Well Counselling Centre with it's lounge being used for coffee mornings and a variety of church events.

The new church building was built in the 70s with additional halls being added. The name was changed to Wilmington Christian Fellowship around this time to keep it in line with Biblical tradition.

In 1987 Mr Alan Murphy became the new full time Pastor and the church under his ministry has continued to grow. In 1993 Nigel Hurley came as the Assistant Pastor.

Harbour Ministries

As Wilmington Christian Fellowship continued to grow other churches were planted.

Firstly New Barn Christian Fellowship in 1995, then Swanley Christian Fellowship in 1998, Darent Valley Community Church located in Eynsford in 2002 and, more recently, Wrotham Community Church.

Pastor Alan Murphy has spearheaded all these church plants. Subsequently, new pastors have been taken on to lead those churches with Nigel Hurley becoming the Pastor of WCF.
